We never cease to be amazed by the amount of vendors and venues that brides are able to choose from in our great Commonwealth. This is best showcased in the phenomenal bridal shows that occur throughout the year especially here in Central Va.

Olivia, future Va bride enjoying the red carpet treatment

The Richmond Bridal Showcase is just one of many events for brides, grooms and parents to explore the numerous options available to them to insure an incredible matrimonial celebration. This show takes place actually twice yearly (once in August and then again in January) at the Richmond Convention Center. We like to bring out one of our brand new stretch limousines and also one of our fabulous luxury limo coaches. The coach is always a crowd pleaser as the whole bridal party including photographer can usual ride along together. It also makes for a great place to relax with a glass of wine during the bridal show.

This year we again participated in the VIP package for one lucky bride. The winner was Markita Booker who along with her bridesmaids and wedding planner enjoyed the royal treatment complete with limousine service to and from the showcase. She was also ecstatic to learn that with the diversity of our fleet, all of her wedding transportation worries could be put at ease.

We always enjoy making the rounds at the shows and stopping to say hello to fellow RBA members and see what new venues and vendors are available to the brides. Some of our favorites include Bella Rosa Bridals, Cakes by Graham and Mankin Mansion. The amazing part of living in Virginia is that you are able to fully develope any style or theme you can possibly think up. If you want a fully formal evening affair complete with the latest and most modern touches or a simple afternoon by the water with shabby chic touches, Virginia offers it all and all within a short drive.

Our upcoming show this Sunday in Charlottesville, Elegance in Bridal at the Omni Downtown will show off even more wonderful ideas and innovations. This is our first time participating in a Charlottesville show as we have just recently opened up locally in that area. We are very excited to be expanding after almost twenty years of unparalleled professional service in Richmond. So, if you are in the area and still seeking that perfect place to say “I do” or maybe just the finishing touches for your ceremony, be sure to stop in and see the wedding splendor that Charlottesville has to offer.

It is no secret that Virginia is steeped deeply in history and also pouring over in the wine industry. With this in mind we wanted to create a tour that embodied the best of both of these worlds…the Jefferson Trail.

Michie Tavern ca. 1784

Last Friday, I travelled to Charlottesville to explore the possibility of creating this new trail. My first stop, Michie Tavern conveniently right off of I64 at exit 121. Greg MacDonald, executive director was more than accommodating to give me a tour of the property and explain the history of this fabulous old tavern. This isn’t just your great, great, great grandfather’s watering hole! There are several shops on site offering period toys, books, games, beautiful crafts and clothes. The original structure that was actually purchased and moved to the property by Mrs. Mark Henderson in 1927 offers tours and tons of interactive opportunities for children and adults alike to learn the rich history of the tavern.

The Metalsmith shop offers wares in brass, copper, silver and more.

My biggest concern when I am creating a tour route is the timing. We strive to keep the clients on a leisurely pace but not book the route so indulgent in time that it creates unnecessary charges. Whenever a lunch or dinner location is involved on a tour, it becomes very difficult to manage time. The Michie Tavern staff has it down to an absolute science when it comes to feeding with flavor and efficiency. The buffet was mounded high with hot and delicious fried chicken, biscuits, stewed tomatoes, mashed potatoes and more. For dessert, an incredible peach cobbler a la mode with candied pecans. (As I type this, my tummy can’t help but growl a little). The tavern staff is well versed in all things historical to Albemarle/Charlottesville and don’t mind chatting with you about the history of the property. Despite the ability of the tavern to feed so many so quickly, you never feel rushed and more importantly, due to the design of the Ordinary, you never notice more than just the people sitting next to you. It’s a wonderful experience especially when topped off with a tour of the shops on the property. I left behind more than a few coins at the Metalsmith shop and Clothier. These shops along with the General Store will amaze you with the inventory of 1800′s styled wares and accessories as well as numerous goods with the VA’s Finest Seal. Even though I started my exploration at Michie Tavern, this will actually be the second stop on the Jefferson Trail.

The Visitor Center at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello

The first stop is to be a tour of the house and grounds at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. This was to be the first time since a 5th grade field trip (that was quite a few years ago) since I had visited the home of our founding father. Unfortunately, I couldn’t have picked a more busy weekend than the 4th of July holiday. I of course didn’t prepurchase tickets because I wasn’t quite sure of when I would be coming through. The next available tour was over an hour away and I still had at least two more stops to make before 5pm. I decided to look around the Visitor Center and see what there was to keep guests occupied and entertained while they waited for their tram to start the tour. My goodness! There’s a museum, a cafe, a gift shop and even a movie. I could have easily spent the hour just at the Visitor Center but alas, I had a schedule.

The Jefferson Trail was almost complete. I just needed one more component, a tasting of some fine Virginia wine. The final stop on our newest route is to include a tasting at Jefferson Vineyards. The property was sold by Thomas Jefferson to a Florentine viticulturist who shared Jefferson’s ideas of adding Virginia to the world map of wine producers. Unfortunately, disease in the vines and the Revolutionary War prevented this venture from coming to fruition. However, if good old Mr. Jefferson could see us now he would most certainly be grinning from ear to ear and raising a glass of Voignier. The wines, views and staff at Jefferson Vineyards are always inviting and exceptional. We feel that this will be a perfect ending highlight of the newly created Jefferson Trail and offer a wonderful dynamic to an incredible tour.

Just a sampling of what's available in Metalsmith Shop at Michie Tavern

This tour is currently available and priced starting at just $130 per person* for local Richmond area pickup and only $106 per person* for local Charlottesville area pickup. All fees, transportation cost (including chauffeur gratuities), buffet lunch, Monticello tour tickets and fun at the vineyard are included with the per person pricing and the tour is scheduled for approximately a 7 hour run Richmond pickup/5 hour run Charlottesville pickup.

Our tours offer a little something for everyone young, old and in between! Stay tuned for more travels through Richmond, Albemarle and beyond as we prepare to create Apple picking tours, Pumpking excursions, Haunted House Terror Trails and our infamous Tacky Light Tours.

*The per person pricing is based on use of one of our fabulous 16 passenger Limo Coaches with a full 16 passengers aboard. Any additional time over alloted tour time is available for $100/half hour or $200/hour.

Colonial Downs was definitely the place to be this past Saturday afternoon. The track was full of racing oficianados hoping to strike at least enough money to cover their bar tabs by betting on the ponies. This past Saturday was also the Race to the Altar and Ladies Night.

Our Secretariat themed booth for Race to the Altar at Colonial Downs

This was our second year as the transportation sponsor for Race to the Altar where one lucky couple out of a chosen group of ten wins an entire wedding for FREE! We of course make sure the couple arrives in style, red carpet and all. The couples get to enjoy the fine facilities at the track in a private sky suite and hone in on their racetrack betting skills while enjoying a full buffet and the magnificent views from the suite. All afternoon there was plenty to keep all entertained. The first 2000 ladies received a special coupon for a cupcake that was to be given out after the 6th race with 4 of those cupcakes containing certificates for jewelry from Carrera’s Jewelers. There were also raffle prizes and giveaways courtesy of all the sponsors for the Race to the Altar. We made sure that one lucky lady would receive $100 gift card good towards the purchase of any of our services including wine tours and weddings!

As the horses ran around the track and the vendors feverishly stamped punch cards for the raffle, the ten couples grew more antsy awaiting race #7 when the winning couple would be selected. The horses loaded into the starting gate and then just like that, they were off! The winning horse sprinted from the back at the last few yards to overtake the leader and clench victory for Bruce and Michele who will be receiving their wedding FREE at Colonial Downs on July 30th with their friends and family in attendance. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Special thank you to Blown Away Salon for being such a great booth buddy and for the fabulous sparkles in my hair and also to Creta Masteller for the incredible artwork of Secretariat.

James Limousine is increasingly becoming more and more excited about our expansion into Charlottesville, VA. We adore our hometown, Richmond but have been building business all over Charlottesville for the past few years. Our owner, Randy Allen is a UVA graduate and is very excited about being able to offer outstanding transportation to his fellow Wahoos. Our wine tours throughout the Charlottesville-Albemarle area have already become a great success so imagine our excitement when we learned that the Monticello Artisans Trail would be opening in July with a sneak peek available to industry professionals.

This past Thursday, June 23rd I had the pleasure of participating in that sneak peek via a

Gorgeous locally crafted items await you at Muses on Ivy.

FAM Tour with CACVB. The day started at 9am sharp from the county building and as soon as everyone was onboard, away we went. Our tour director, Tracy Kellum assisted by other CACVB staffers such as Susan and Kurt welcomed us to the Monticello Artisans Trail Tour with our first stop at Muses, Art for Living. This fabulous little shop owned by Susan Brodie and Thierry Drapanas is stocked full of locally sourced and created jewelry, pottery, woodworks and just about anything that can be painted on, has been. I promptly began a little light Christmas shopping, it couldn’t be helped.

Next stop, the Barn Swallow just a short scenic stroll past the Boar’s Head Inn. Again, we were graciously welcomed and utterly in awe at the beautifully crafted pottery, fabrics and assorted wares available. Owners, Janice Arone (juried artist for her clay pottery) and Mary Ann Burk shared the story of their unique shop and the vision that they had in place. We took our time taking in all of the gorgeous pottery and hand crafted items and of course, left with bags of goodies. I began to see a pattern and was getting nervous because the next stop was Greenewood Studios, very well known for custom woodworking.

Over 400 hrs of crafting went into the chest of drawers by Greenewood Studios.

As we pulled into the old Wilson Company buildings, we were a bit confused as to why we were being driven into what appeared to be abandoned buildings off the beaten path. Barry our chauffeur seemed to know exactly where he was going and once he positioned the motor coach at the open bay doors we realized the buildings weren’t abandoned, they were quite the opposite. Once a metal desk and cabinet manufacturing center, the Wilson Company buildings now housed the divine and clever craftings of Greenewood Studios, owned by Dan Hunt as well as a few other local businesses. Dan shared his passion of woodcrafting with us and even brought out two exquisite examples for our review. His use of “figured” woods allows him to create a fiery texture on the surfaces for a more dynamic appearance. All of his work is on a custom basis and branches from furniture to cabinets and items in between.

When we loaded back onto the motor coach, Susan gave us the excellent news that we were actually running ahead of time so we were going to add another stop. This time at a fabulous little book and artisan gallery in Crozet named, Over the Moon owned by Laura and Anne DeVault. I love books and I love great handmade jewelry and local crafts. The store has books from floor to ceiling and is absolutely crisp and cheery in atmosphere. Again, I had no problem stimulating the economy and adding a few more check offs to my Christmas list. After all of this shopping we were getting pretty famished so it was off to Anna’s Italian Ristorante for pizza and subs! Thank you to the staff at the restaurant for such a fantastic job handling our large group during lunch rush and supplying us with some much needed sustinence. The only thing we were missing was dessert, or were we?

Fresh peaches at Chiles Peach Orchard ripe and ready for picking!

Another scenic ride (there are quite a few in Albemarle) and we pulled up in front of Chiles Peach Orchard. Owner, Cynthia Chiles gave us an overview of her family’s 100 year old operation and a delightful sampling of peach ice cream. The staff had just started picking peaches last week and we were luckily there for the first round of purchases for fresh picked peaches. Apparently their peaches are so well loved even the wildlife comes in to enjoy the juicy treats from time to time as bear and deer sightings are not uncommon. I grabbed a couple of pounds of fresh peaches for the boss and headed to the motor coach with the group for our final stop of the day.

Albemarle Ciderworks, nestled just off of route 29 on Rural Ridge Lane is a family run operation that prides itself in the production of proper cidering. The Sheltons opened the cidery in 2009 with 4 very tasty and unique hard cider blends. The Royal Pippin and Old Ragged Mountain were my favorites and of course, a bottle of each came home to Richmond. Charlotte and Ann gave us an overview of the operation and the history of cider making. With the boom of the Virginia wine industry, cider is enjoying a resurgence in popularity as it is reminiscent of the beverages served at Monticello. Just to listen to the history behind the apple in Virginia and labor of love that goes into each batch is thrilling when told by the Sheltons. They offer tastings and tours every Wednesday thru Sunday and even now offer music at the cidery on the second Sunday of each month.

Sit, sip and enjoy the scenery of the mountains at Albemarle Ciderworks

Alas, our tour had finally come to an end. For the final time we boarded our motor coach and returned to the county building. The best news is that this was only an itsy bitsy sampling of what was to come. There are over 100 artisans, galleries and crafters on the tour. There is an official map that will be coming out in July and the website will be up and running full steam this Fall. So, when you are in need of a phenomenal quick trip to find the truly unique and locally sourced, head just a short distance west up I64 and keep your eyes peeled for the sign: Monticello Artisan Trail!

Today the announcement was officially made that the WBC 11 was coming to town! From Friday July 22nd thru Sunday July 24th, Charlottesville will be hosting over 300 wine bloggers from across the nation. This is an incredible and an amazing opportunity for Virginia wineries to showcase why this great Commonwealth is gaining so much momentum in the wine industry.

Lisa with Monticello and John of CACVB speaking at official press release of WBC 11

The Charlottesville-Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau (CACVB) has played an intricate part in capturing the attention of the conference and displaying why they should come to Charlottesville. The CACVB was able to edge out Paso Robles, the Fingerlakes and other great wine producing cities winning a golden opportunity for our wineries. This is the fourth annual conference but the first time meeting on the east coast. The bloggers will be treated to a full schedule of events including tastings from local wineries, a speed dating style wine tasting event, seminars on wine aromas, blogging and wine technologies and even a wine reception at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

The bloggers will be staying primarily at the Omni Hotel at the Downtown Mall as well as a few surronding hotels. They will certainly enjoy the shopping, dining and fine wines that Charlottesville has to offer them. So, if you are out and about that weekend in the area and notice a group of people in “wine country casual” busily tapping on their devices, they are more than likely wine bloggers. Take a moment to introduce yourself and thank them for taking the time to come explore our fabulous wineries and support our wine and tourism industry.

This was our first year as vendor and so we weren’t quite sure what to expect at an event such as this one. Being animal lovers we knew we wanted to participate. There were actually two big votes yes from our office mascots, Snowball the maltese and Ashley Carmina the chihuahua. Snowball doesn’t really make too many public appearances anymore and had a leisurely weekend planned so he wasn’t able to make it. Ashley on the other hand is a starlet and jumps at any opportunity to be in a crowd of affectionate hugs and kisses and the occasional treat.

Saturday morning Ashley and I packed up one of the company SUVs with the supplies for our booth and headed to Louisa. After setting up we of course took our time exploring the other participating vendor booths and anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Richmond SPCA Tail Wag’n. They brought out a wonderful mix of full grown dogs, puppies and even some kittens and cats for those with a preference for a feline pet. The children in attendance just absolutely poured attention on the animals while their parents enjoyed pours of another sort from the tasting room. One lucky puppy aptly named Sweet Louisa was adopted by the same family that made first adoption six years ago when this event began. Now Rhapsody has a playmate and another Cooper wine has a namesake!

Richmond SPCA helping animals find a perfect partner

Cooper Vineyards brand new LEED Platinum tasting room was bustling with crowds of people eager to try some fine Virginia wine and listen to tunes of The Taters playing live on the deck. This was also where James River Cellars was located so patrons actually enjoyed wine from two fabulous vineyards. Of course Ashley couldn’t help but convince someone to open the door onto the deck for her so she could a little dustbusting under the tables. She is quite the ingenious little dog. Once I convinced that she should perhaps return to working the booth I decided I also felt a bit peckish and feasted on an incredible cheese and cracker platter from the onsite caterer, Champagne Taste. Luckily, we finished our snack just before a late afternoon thunderstorm. Ashley again supervised while I did all of the grunt work and dismantled our booth, preparing to head back to the office.

If you have not had the pleasure of visiting Cooper Vineyards, please stop denying yourself. They are conveniently located in Louisa just a few miles northeast of I64. Want to stay closer to home? Then stop by James River Cellars especially on a hot day for a wine slushy! Cooper’s next event is on June 25th, Jazz and Chocolate and of course, four legged friends are welcome.

After a restful evening at Inn on Poplar Hill and an amazing three course breakfast, my fellow Inn guests and I met with the rest of the group and we were all off again to tour the fabulous venues of Orange County.

James Madison's Montpelier

First stop was at James Madison’s Montpelier. The home and property are exactly as you would imagine for a past president and founding father. The thing that struck me most was how much he and his wife truly loved each other, how perfect for a wedding tour! The estate has quite a history of southern hospitality and entertained heads of state and leaders from all over the world. There are artifacts constantly being uncovered and most recently they realized that there were several more buildings on the property than originally believed. After the property transferred to the Dupont family in the early 1900′s it became an equine center and showcased many of the family’s prize winning thoroughbreds. If you are available the first weekend in November, definitely book a room at one of the several wonderful B & Bs in Orange and spend the day at the Montpelier Races. A true treat for all in the family!

Again it was time to move on to the next venue, Inn at Willow Grove. This is where NY cosmopolitan meets countryliving and they do it oh so well. The staff met us outside the front entrance, which is gorgeous as are the entire grounds, with champagne and refreshing lemongrass tea (one of their own recipes). We all grabbed a glass and headed inside to the main structure to view the rooms and absolutely stunning decor. There are five additional cottages each with their own delightful touches such as heated tile floors and overstuffed furniture. The property is expanding to house five additional cottages that will be pet friendly. Then it was down to the barn. Most certainly, this is not the average barn as the entire structure had been converted to a reception venue that boasts floor to ceiling windows, fireplaces and a tent pad just off the side. Of course no trip for us is complete without eating and eat we did. We all moved into one of the smaller dining rooms, keep in mind there was about 50 of us and we still had plenty of room, and were served a delectable lunch. Most notably we feasted on the dessert platter of macaroons, cookies and brittle!

These views and more await you in Orange County!

So of course, now after a most filling lunch we boarded our chariots again headed off on a scenic tour by our guide Frank, Tour Guide, Ltd. and made our way to Stonefire Station located on Spotswood Trail. This is a fantastic gourmet style sandwich shop and full reception venue capable of producing elegant dinners. We have used them several times for our fabulous wine tours and have been very pleased with the response from clients on the quality and creativity. Of course, we dined on cheeses, fruits and these absolutely incredible Italian desserts that we all insisted were one of the best parts of the tour. After a bit more to eat and a few words from one of the proprietors, Victoria, we again loaded the coaches and headed to our final venue.

Barboursville Vineyardsis hailed as the grand dame of wineries in our great Commonwealth. They have been setting the precedent for Virginia wines and assisted in bringing our grapes front and center on an international level. Luca, winemaker for Barboursville, greeted us and took us on a tour of the facilities including the Octagon Room and one of the rooms overlooking the vines and ruins. Yes, we dined again on magnificent shrimp and asparagus appetizers while sipping on some of their fine Virginia wine. A photo op and a walking tour to the ruins capped the trip and we all drug our feet heading back to the coaches.

This voyage was an exciting look into wedding and event venues in Orange County made possible by the hard work and dedication of Jenn McBride, McBride Events and Jay Billie, Inn at Westwood Farm and the many vendors that dedicated their time, services and expertise. The two days were filled with glimpses into alternatives to out of the box events and opened our eyes to the tons of possibilities just a short drive up I64. We encourage you to explore the B & Bs and surronding venues in this gorgeous county whether you have a need for a quick weekend getaway, family reunion or wedding for hundreds, you will be pleasantly surprised at just how outstanding your event can be!

Orange Wedding Tour group enjoying photo op in beautiful Barboursville Vineyards

I believe we left off from part one with me relaxing on the front porch of Inn on Poplar Hill, rocking away waiting for some of the group to finish exploring the incredible property. The afternoon was promising to let more sunshine slip through the clouds which we all praised since we were heading to our walking tour at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Historic St. Thomas Episcopal Church

Orange is full of Civil War history and the church acted as a pseudo headquarters for the Confederates in 1864. Gen. Lee’s pew is still available for viewing and the tree where he tied

Tree where Gen. Lee tied Traveller to attend services at St. Thomas

Traveller is still standing just outside the front door. The history lesson that we all received was made possible and entertaining by Frank Walker, Tourguide Ltd. and his guides Dolores and Phil. This was a twist that we couldn’t have passed up as it added so much to being able to get a better understanding of the area and what it means to so many.

The next stop was Holladay House with innkeepers Sharon and Sam Elswick. This location is no stranger to weddings as the inn hosted its’ first in 1864 for a local woman and an officer of the Confederate army. The inn is centrally located and only one block from St. Thomas church making it ideal for those that want to explore all of the antiques and art stores. Did we again eat? But of course. This time we sampled fabulous cake from Cakes by Kristine and scrumptious cupcakes from Charlottesville Cupcakes. This was the perfect sugar pick me up late in the afternoon. We then returned to our respective B & Bs to relax for about an hour before dinner.

Dinner was served at the Inn at Westwood Farm with host Jay Billie and hostess Elizabeth Goeke. When the coaches dropped us at the inn, we were greeted and escorted down a tree lined path to a beautiful ceremony area and then on to the main tent, courtesy of Hunt Country Rentals for the music, dinner and drinks. Jesse Harper and the Love Canon String Band filled the tent with outstanding 80′s hits but with a bluegrass twist. The Beggar’s Banquet had appetizers that I could have easily made a meal of, still thinking of the scallops! The tables were breathtaking thanks to the floral brillance of Sugar Magnolias Flowers and speaking of tables, all chairs, linens and tables were provided by Festive Fare. Now, for the main dinner! Elmwood at Sparks held back nothing with a buffet with lamb chops as the main dish (I had to go back for seconds).

The day had turned into night and the night was filled with an incredible experience and showcase of the venues available in the Orange area. The coaches were waiting though and so we all piled in and headed to our B & Bs to rest and get ready for day two!

When Jennifer McBride with McBride Events contacted us about supplying the transportation segment for a wedding tour through Orange County, we figured it would be a fairly non-event, one day trot through the countryside. Well, one day was actually two days and that only melted the tip of the iceberg! If you have never been to Orange County, what are you waiting for?

The inaugural Orange Wedding Tour kicked off on a downpour of a day this past Tuesday (5/17) with our luxury 16 passenger limo coach and 36 passenger motor coach picking up some now rather skeptical wedding planners, media members and wedding industry professionals. We couldn’t help but notice that no one in the group seemed excited about the fact that we were about to embark on a journey that included outdoor walking tours. (To put in perspective the amount of rain we were getting, there were flash floods occurring all over Central VA). Once all of the luggage and the attendees were safely stowed onboard, we began our excursion that would span the next 36 hours.

After navigating the water-soaked roads up to Gordonsville, we made a brief stop in Pomme, a phenomenal French/American restaurant. The owner and staff of Pomme greeted us with delectable pastries, fresh fruit, and coffee. This set the mood and tempo for the whole tour. Everywhere we travelled, we were graciously greeted with ample amounts of food, drink and hospitality. Even the Gordonsville Police Chief was wonderful enough to have officers assist our vehicles in traffic so that the chauffeurs (Tom and Earnest) had an easier go of safely dropping off everyone and finding appropriate parking. The Pomme restaurant also served as the pickup point for our fabulous guides Frank, Dolores and Phil with Tour Guides, LTD. For those of you that have never taken part in the delightful dining experiences offered at Pomme, you simply must make the short trip and indulge yourself.

Rounton Farm

The rain gave us a brief break so we made haste to load the coaches and continue on our way. The next stop, Rounton Farm which is family owned and operated since 1976. The rolling hills and exquisite views are a perfect setting for just a few family and close friends or an all out bash for several hundred guests. The owners took us out on a wagon ride to view the grounds, hilarious to see group of professional adults go crazy for a chance to sit on hay bales and bump along a grassy path! We enjoyed delicious scones and piping hot coffee courtesy of Light Well. The tables were very well decorated courtesy of Colonial Florist and we were kept dry thanks to Gibson Tent Rentals.

From the Rounton Farm we divided the group into two portions to allow for a more intimate and easy-going tour of the Bed & Breakfasts locations. For my group, our first stop was Chestnut Hill run by Troy & Kathleen Ayers. This B & B is a true labor of love. The Ayers actually purchased the home and promptly moved it from its original roadside location to the top of the hill. The county had plans to build a new road and the house was not in their plans. The Ayers spent the next six years remodeling, landscaping and decorating to create the ultimate outdoor wedding venue. Their property offers lush views, a picturesque fountain and rich embellishments at every turn.

Chestnut Hill offers a perfect outdoor venue

They offer three wedding packages from elopements to grandaffairs for up to 150 guests. Once we toured the amazing interior of the home, we stepped out to a wonderfully decorated seating area. The tables were dressed by again, Gibson Rentals and Colonial Florist and the most divine menu sampling by Real Food. As I type this I can still taste the addictive little strawberry dessert nestled into an amazing coconut shell….YUM! Once we finished exploring the beautiful grounds of Chestnut Hill, we moved down the road just a bit to Mayhurst Inn.

Mayhurst Inn, offering 9000sqft of Southern beauty and charm

The Mayhurst Inn, circa 1859 is a four story, Italianate manor home nestled on a hilltop complete with scenic pond and rich history. This B & B, owned by Jack and Pat North offers an amazing venue for a small intimate gathering to a guestlist of three hundred. The manor house has hosted three Confederate Generals (Gen. Lee, Gen. Hill, Gen. Jackson) and was unscathed during the Civil War due to its location just outside of town. After a history stocked tour (mint juleps in hand) through beautifully decorated rooms, we retired to the rear lawn to yet another feast. This time Beggar’s Banquet laid out an eyefilling spread complete with fresh fruits, cheeses, salmon and more. The tablescapes were an inspiring design courtesy of Gentle Gardener Flowers and again our heads were kept dry from the rain thanks to Gibson Rentals.

Our next stop was the Inn on Poplar Hill, also my accommodations for the evening. Here we were greeted by innkeepers Marty and Victoria Turville in front of their pet friendly, 28 acre estate. We toured through six very well appointed rooms that offer overnight accommodations for up to 16 guests and any four legged friends that wish to stay and enjoy some pampering. As if we hadn’t had enough to eat already, we headed in to the Game Room for some good old

Outdoor wedding seating at Inn on Poplar Hill

fashioned barbecue from BBQ Exchange. It was here I got to sample some alternative uses for bacon, such as baconcupcakes and bacon brownies. It’s definitely something you need to try at least once. Since the sixteen of us had pretty much grazed our way across one portion of town, it seemed a stroll down the berry lined walking paths to the fishing pond was in order. This personally seemed a bit too strenous for myself so I decided to make excellent use of the rocking chairs on the front porch. One would think that this had to be the end of our day but oh no, there is still more to come. Stay tuned for Part 2 of the Orange Wedding Tour adventures…

The date is set. It has been for several months now and continues to move closer and closer. This is the date that you and your fiancé are looking forward to so that your families may celebrate a day of love, laughter and lasting relationships. With less than six months before the wedding nuptials, you hopefully have a checklist full of checks. One of those very important checks may still be missing beside your transportation provider.

James Limousine, Richmond’s premier transportation provider has been assisting brides and grooms for almost 20 years in the Greater Richmond area. Starting as low as $135 for an elegant wedding point to point service up to highly detailed, multiple vehicle services, James Limousine will make sure that your wedding day ride is perfect.

Traditionally, the bride and her family cover the expenses for the bridal party transportation and the groom and his family cover the expenses for the groom and best man to get to the ceremony. These traditions are by no means in stone. Over the past years we have noticed a trend in the bride and groom taking on more of the cost associated with the wedding day transportation. This is why we always encourage the couple to set an appointment to view our entire fleet and share their vision with us. Our wedding experts are able to find a transportation solution to just about every portion of the wedding day including making sure that relatives safely arrive from airports and hotels to the ceremony and reception.

The transportation for your wedding day is usually broken into three portions: the ride from home/hotel to the ceremony, the ride from the ceremony to the reception and finally the ride from the reception to the home/hotel. Depending upon the couple’s vision and budget, there may be a need to provide services for just one or all portions of the day. Keep in mind things such as, Are the groomsmen are performing ushering duties (will need to arrive at least 30 min. before ceremony time)? Are the bride and bridesmaids getting ready offsite or at the church? Will you be having a photo session after the ceremony before you travel to the reception (adds additional time to rentals) and does the photographer need to travel with you? Is the ceremony/reception in a remote area with limited parking creating a need for a shuttle service? These are all important items that one of our experts will be keeping in mind for you as they discuss your customized wedding transportation.

With less than six months before the biggest day of your dreams, you will definitely want a check beside transportation no later than thirty days before that date. If your wedding is in April, May or December, then you will want to secure the transportation at least sixty to ninety days before the date for best selection. The most important thing to remember, stay stress free as possible and leave the driving to James!
